Google has come up with some of the most innovative concepts and technologies. But, they have often started with a weird patent.
2. Floating Wave-powered Server Farm: This is perhaps an effort at reducing its utility bills. In 2008 Google filed for a patent for floating data centers. In fact, recently, Google’s barges in the San Francisco bay area were though to be manifestations of this patent.
3. Gadget That Projects Keyboard Onto Your Hand: Voice commands don’t work when there is too much noise around you. As a result, in 2013 Google filed for a patent known as Methods and Systems for a Virtual Input Device. This is a headset for the Google Glass that would project a virtual keyboard on your hand.
4. Throat Tattoo Microphone With Optional Lie Detector: This is quite an innovative idea and it has stopped being just a rumour for a while now. This patent was filed by Google in 2012. Actually, the patent was filed by Google-owned Motorola mobility. It is called Coupling an Electronic Skin Tattoo to a Mobile Communication Device.
5. Image-capturing Walking Stick: Google’s street view is definitely one of the best features of its maps application. This patent, obtained by the company in 2013, makes street view much better in a way. Known as the Walking Stick with Inertial Measurement Unit, it uses a staff with embedded cameras and location sensors to snap pictures o the surroundings. The staff has a switch at the bottom that is used to turn on and off the camera.
6. Sound, Light and Temperature Advertisement Generator:In 2008, the company filed for a patent titled Advertising Based On Environmental Conditions. In this, Google plans to equip smartphones with technology that allows it to sense the temperature, sound, light etc. around it. So, the advertising on the device would be based on that. So, if you’re in a very hot location, you might find an advertisement for air conditioners.
7. Software for Splitting Restaurant Bills: Out for a dinner with friends, we often decide to go dutch on the bill. But often, one person pays, while the others pay them back later. Don’t you just hate it when they ‘forget’ to pay back? Well, Google felt your pain and in 2013 applies for a patent called Tracking and Managing Group Expenditures. The app calculates how much money a person owes and automatically transfers it to the person’s account.
